12/24/08     Christmas Eve at Visalia Emergency Aid

Christmas Eve, 2008, was fast and furious for the Jeff Barnes Brain Injury Foundation. We started by heading to Visalia Emergency Aid at 7:30 a.m. to unload several boxes of helmets to fit children selected to receive a brand new bicycle donated by the Visalia Breakfast Rotary. Children began to come in just before 9:00 a.m. Several volunteers and board members assisted Rotary with the bikes and fit children from toddler all the way up to early teens with helmets. All in all, 154 helmets were fit that morning. We could not have done all of it without the wonderful volunteers that were willing to come out during a very hectic time of year, not to mention the cold temperatures.

After grabbing a bite to eat, we headed to Kaweah Delta’s Rehabilitation Hospital to deliver Christmas gifts purchased by the Jeff Barnes Brain Injury Foundation. We delivered 22 pairs of pajama pants to the patients in the rehab. It was a lot of fun talking to the patients, listening to stories and handing out Christmas gifts. Lots of smiles and good wishes were passed around.
